Sunset Transportation Chooses WeatherOptics for Improved Disruption Visibility and Carrier Safety

New York City, NY, August 24, 2023 – Sunset Transportation, a Top 10, third-party logistics company, has announced a partnership with WeatherOptics, a leading weather risk and intelligence platform, to improve resilience and cut down on disruptions during high impact weather events.

Sunset Transportation, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, offers a full suite of logistics management services, shipping technology, customs clearance, and freight payment services. Partnering with WeatherOptics will allow Sunset to develop a more proactive weather risk approach, better managing loads and shipments that may be at risk of weather impact.

Using WeatherOptics’ routing solution and risk scoring, Sunset can streamline the process of figuring out which loads are at risk of weather delays or driver danger, and then take action with their customers and partners to reduce that risk. “In order to get in front of potential weather-related delays, you need to know the route, ETA, and any weather systems that may be overlapping with the driver’s based on where they stand at a certain time during the trip. The even bigger challenge is finding a way to do that systematically as compared to manually evaluating that information for every shipment. WeatherOptics has found a way to do just that,” said John Sutton, Director of Corporate Support for Sunset Transportation.

WeatherOptics translates weather data into actionable insight for logistics companies, using predictive weather modeling and unique non-weather data sources such as telematics data, topography, and granular information about road networks and conditions. The insights are delivered as a simple risk score and delay time that allow businesses to easily understand how upcoming weather will affect their key operations.

The weather intelligence company works with some of the largest logistics companies in the world to help predict and mitigate things like trucking delays, warehouse disruptions, and driver risk due to weather. “WeatherOptics is unique because we’re able to simulate a shipment and provide insights on exactly how a load may be impacted by upcoming weather. Rather than simply telling you rain or snow, we translate that data so it’s valuable to the end user and they aren’t left guessing how their operations might be affected,” said WeatherOptics co-founder and CEO, Scott Pecoriello. “We’re excited to work with Sunset Transportation because they are committed to providing the best possible services to both their customers and partners, regardless of what the weather is.”
